As we look at this comic strip it might be funny, but when you are the one who is really the poor one it is not so funny. There are one in eight Americans who live below the poverty level. Welfare was supposed to help relieve some of the finacial stress on a temporary basis but instead has become a permanent source of income for some people. As you can read in the following links, President Bush has made many of plans to solve the welfare reform issue. But personally, I feel this is just another way of good old Bush trying to get a few votes under his belt.

Welfare caseworkers are overloaded with paperwork.

Welfare is much like charity and chow lines.

Hi Mona,
I thought that your site was very interesting. Your PP presentation was laid out well and wasn't difficult to read. I do have one question though...with the way SS is now, many people believe that there is no way to fix it. I noticed that you said we should focus on SS as part of the Welfare Reform. What is it that you think should be done to fix SS and how will this benefit our welfare system? Thanks, Cindy

Hi Cindy, thans for the comments. I feel and many would agree that SS benefits for the elderly should be increased and the welfare benefits be decreased. It is just not fair that many elderly had money taken out of their checks for social security and they get back a small amount monthly. People on welfare are just given a check without having to put any money in to it. I think that if welfare is cut than many people would rahter work. At the point now is many welfare recipients get more money staying home than if they were to work. Welfare programs are just becoming a crutch for people who are dependent of welfare benefits. But it is not fair that the elderly have to pay the price, I mean one day we will all get old and we surely want to get at least 85% of what we put into social security. These are tough subjects that need much attention. Thanks for your question.

Thank you Sofia for your comment. I wish I could say that there were less situations in the welfare world but there isn't. At least if there was one solution for each situation, but there isn't. Hopefully one day one of my kids will work in the White House and all are problems will be solved. Remember if you see someone with the last name Garza, pleas vote for him or her. Thanks for your comment.
